Letting the Messages Come

Today in my meditation, I suddenly pictured myself lying in a field looking up at a swarm of white butterflies dancing above me. The sun was bright and warm but there was a distinct feeling of autumn. I took more deep breaths and saw a flash of silvery, black stones at the bottom of a shallow creek. The water was clear and flowing over the smooth stones. That babbling brook sound is one of my favorites.

As I made my meditation notes, (I highly recommend keeping a meditation journal) I thought I’d do some research. I searched for the symbolism of white butterflies. There were a few interpretations but the ones that resonated with me were the following.

◻Pay attention to your body and health

◻Connect to your joy

◻Be lighter and release the heaviness you hold

◻Stop trying too hard

◻A soul’s gift can be seen in its growth

Then I searched for the stones I saw and realized it was hematite. The meanings of this stone are below.

◻Grounding

◻Stabilizing

◻Courage

◻Protection

I know, I know. I had the same thought, “Gee, Annette, those meanings seem to contradict each other, grounding and be lighter?” But the more I thought about it, they made perfect sense when I realized the message. Balance. The two work together. Hematite absorbs toxic emotions holding you back from your natural state of joy, the symbolism of the butterflies.

Even if you view stones as simply a reminder of what they symbolize or really believe they have the power to affect the energy around us, the message is still valuable. Maintain a balance and always return to what brings you joy.

The messages we need will always be there. Whether it’s meditating and looking within, going on a walk and keeping our eyes open for everyday blessings, or recognizing the people and opportunities that come into our lives, the message we need is waiting to be recognized.
